One of the greatest Earth Day celebrations on the planet took place right here in Northeast Ohio. EarthFest is Ohio's largest environmental educational event and one of the longest standing and most successful Earth Day events in the country. EarthFest 2008 was a fun and educational event that offered an opportunity to learn about the many environmental issues that face our community while enjoying the backdrop of fun activities and great entertainment. The theme of EarthFest was "Climate Change Solutions." EarthFest 2008 was effectively wind powered for the whole day! We partnered with Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, our terrific sponsors, over 150 exhibitors and hundreds of volunteers to bring you the latest in solutions to this important global concern. EarthFest 2008 had the following exhibits and display areas:

Local and Organic Food Area - Local farmers, foodstuffs and business that allow you to contribute to your health and the health of the land by choosing locally grown or organic foods (in the Zoo Auditorium)

Clean Transportation Area: Clean fuels, practices and technologies can reconnect our region while reducing petroleum use and emissions (in the ZooGate Commons)

Children's Area: Hands-on environmental information, activities, crafts and entertainment (in the Primate, Cat and Aquatics Building)

Eco Area-Non Profit Organizations: Featured environmental exhibits and educational displays from scores of environmental education organizations, community groups, government, parks and schools (in the Palava Picnic Hut)

Green Home Improvement Area: Environmentally beneficial products and practices from local entrepreneurs - displays and exhibits (Tent near Monkey Island)

Environmental Science Area: Learn about education and science-based hands on eco-activities and the Art, Poetry and Essay Contest displays (in the Zoo Auditorium)

Party With the Planet Entertainment Area: Featured the bes live entertainment from the latest up and coming local bands and performers (Zoo Amphitheater)

Welcoming Ceremonies kicked off the event with our local dignitaries at 11:00 am at Zoo Amphitheater

Participants brought aluminum cans to the Recycle...Because You Can display and built a gigantic Terminal Tower recycling display.

Did you notice the frog on our official Earth Day 2008 image? Earth Day Coalition is part of "Leap Into Action" (LIA), a regional initiative of more than two dozen conservation and science-related organizations in Northeast Ohio working together in 2008 to highlight amphibians and their habitats through special events, activities, displays and programs throughout the year. LIA's goals are to support and highlight regional amphibian/wetland conservation efforts, raise awareness about the plight of amphibians and promote real opportunities for the public to directly support and get involved in amphibian and wetland conservation efforts right here in Northeast Ohio. To get more information on what you can do to learn more about amphibians, act to help amphibians and share your experiences click here.
